Rest Comes Easy – Wait! No That is All Wrong

 July 6, 2020

By  Jonathan Biles

I am so tired! July 1st came along and my motivation amped up as it had been 1 year and 4 months on this amazing journey, then my body said you need rest! As I often do, my desires to succeed far outweighed my abilities. The plan was simple. Post three times per day in my blog. Post a personal blog, one about what I am reading in the Bible, and then a post about the self-improvement book I am currently reading.

Why three posts per day? Well, the math guy in me realized that if I can increase my website traffic by 2 fold, then my conversion rate on my affiliate program will increase and my blog posting will financially support my family. Logical right? To be fair, I was not wrong. The increased posting did convert as desired, but I was lacking one thing. A real plan.

Why do I need rest?

Every year on July 3rd, we throw a celebration party to bring our friends together and give them a large fireworks display. This year with COVID-19, we made the hard decision to cancel festivities. But in my mind, I couldn’t let go. I could have taken this opportunity to rest and not stress about home projects, but I didn’t listen.

On the morning of the third, I woke with huge anxiety of all the work that needed to be done. Since we canceled our show, no one would come over and see the un-finished projects, but that didn’t matter. I started my morning with my usual routine, but when it came down to writing my posts, I caved to the massive projects and ignored my purpose and rest for that matter. Three days later after exhausting myself, I think I am ready to get back into my purpose.

Tired eyes are open, now what?

True, I did make great strides in my looming home projects, but my lack of balance threw everything off. I lost focus of my true purpose, in which I find rest by the way, and sought the distractions. The distractions kept me from taking care of my mind and soul and instead took a great toll on my body. I am not the young man I once was, so if I need to dig a large hole and fix a sewer pipe, maybe I shouldn’t try do it all in one day. That doesn’t go into the other 5 projects I tackled that same day.

So now what, right? Balance of the mind, body, and soul is an important need that it is high time I stop ignoring. I still plan to post three times a day, but with balance of the rest of my life. My new plan starts today. Can I help you put together a comprehensive plan? Let me know, I would love to help.
