Love Dare Day 22: April 10, 2020

What is Day 22 about:

Every single human being on this earth, regardless of their circumstance has one thing in common, choice. Sometimes our choices are incredibly limited, but we still have a choice.

This chapter explores the choice we make in our love.

What do I think about the material:

My entire life, that I can remember, has been in church. Throughout the years I thought I had learned every Bible story, but today, I learned the details of the story of Hosea.

This story is familiar to me, but I didn’t know the details. I wish paid more attention to this story.

If you are not familiar with his journey, God instructed Hosea to marry a prostitute. Three children later, she left him to go back to her old lifestyle of sleeping around. Hosea’s heart was broken.

So what did he do?

Our Western culture is not that different from what he experienced. In a situation like that, Hosea had no obligation to accept her back as his wife. Hosea was basically off the hook and could pursue other sources of love.

The choice he made, however, demonstrated how much love he had for her despite her actions. Her choice led her down a terrible path and was sold as an unwanted slave. He paid for her redemption and welcomed her back into his life.

This story is a phenomenal example of how we are to choose to love our significant other. His love for her was selfless. Did she hurt him? She absolutely did. But instead of casting her out, he worked through his pain to forgive her and give her another chance at a happy life.

Jesus is the obvious example of this love, but it is nice to read a story about a flawed human being making the same choice of love and sacrifice.

My task and how did I perform the task:

Every minute of my day I make the choice to love Jessica. Some days the choice is harder than others, but I recognize that my love for her is not accidental, but purposeful.

The challenge for this day is to choose to be committed to the love of our significant other regardless of the other’s choice to receive it.

The specific choice I made today was to engage with her choice to make TikTok videos during our date night. If you don’t know what the app is, don’t download it, you will be hooked!

The reaction was great. We had a fun time and she made some real funny content. I will continue to work hard through my days to push my comfort zone a little to make the choice to love her more.

Jessica’s reaction:

She didn’t know about the dare, but her reaction to the help with her videos was wonderful. She was laughing and excited. After we were finished, she said that we need to do more together because we have great ideas when we work with each other.
